The design and tailoring of material color for both aesthetic functionality is an ongoing topic materials science engineering research. In this work, a method developed to tune predict pseudogap energy any compositional variation B1-rocksalt structured Group 4 5 transition metal carbonitride. Optical properties bulk multicomponent carbonitrides were characterized using reflectivity spectra. energies extrapolated the Tauc method, appearance was quantified in Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage (CIE) Lightness*Chroma*hue (L*C*h) space. Variations parameters chroma hue analyzed terms electronic band structures. Compositional variations utilized predictably aspects structure, including specificity transitions at which they occur, tailor material’s facilitate formation new carbonitride colors.
